TANYA, THE TURTLE
Once again, commissioned by Shrewsbury BID, I painted another BT-Openreach Box in Shrewsbury.
This box is in the centre of town, in Mardol Head, by the Darwin Gate.
The project brings together several local artists to brighten up the town
with the theme of animals to link in with Charles Darwin, who was born and bred in Shrewsbury.
For this box, I chose a turtle, as a perfect example of Darwin’s evolution theory. There are about 250 species of turtles: ranging from the tiny three-inch bog turtle of eastern North America to the seven-foot-long, one tone leatherback sea turtle of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, showing how species adapt according to their environment.
As Darwin said: ‘The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man.’
It is great to see that WWF (World Wildlife Fund) is now committed to stop the decline
in fives species of endangered sea turtles.
